Anxiety Treatment
Psychedelic Assisted Therapy
What is Anxiety?
For many, occasional anxiety symptoms are common and typically brief, not causing significant problems. However, when anxiety symptoms are persistent and severe, getting in the way of you living life and causing extreme distress, that may indicate an anxiety disorder.
People with anxiety disorders may experience constant anxiety or intense episodes (sometimes without clear triggers), leading them to avoid daily activities, even things they might love to do, to prevent these feelings. Even if they recognize their fears as irrational, it’s a struggle to control it and move forward.
Common characteristics of anxiety disorders are excessive and irrational fear, strong apprehension, and difficulty managing daily tasks. Symptoms include:
Cognitive: Anxious thoughts (e.g., “I’m losing control”), predictions (e.g., “I’ll humiliate myself”), and beliefs (e.g., “Only weak people get anxious”).
Behavioral: Avoidance of feared situations (e.g., driving) and activities that elicit anxiety-like sensations (e.g., exercise), subtle avoidances (e.g., talking more to distract), and safety behaviors (e.g., always carrying a cell phone).
Physical: Excessive reactions such as heart racing and shortness of breath, often mistaken for physical illnesses like heart attacks.
Treatment with Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy
Ketamine-assisted therapy (KAT) for anxiety has shown promising results in the treatment of anxiety symptoms and their related impacts.
Clinical studies have shown that KAT is an effective treatment for anxiety and can significantly reduce symptoms of various anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder, and treatment-resistant anxiety. Patients often experience a rapid reduction in anxiety symptoms, which can provide immediate relief and create an opportunity for more effective engagement in the therapeutic process.
